Comiston Farm House – After the refusal of the application for the farm house developers submitted an appeal to the Scottish Government. Planners have already made a site visit and we can expect a final decision to be made shortly.

More information on the appeal can be read here: http://www.dpea.scotland.gov.uk/CaseDetails.aspx?ID=118100

Canaan Lane  Again, after the Council refused the application to build flats on the site of the old public toilet on Canaan Lane the developers have appealed the decision to the Scottish Government. A site visit has yet to be made and a decision is not expected until November.

Guthrie Court (16/05248/FUL) – the application to convert Guthrie Court Care Home into 30 apartments has been approved.

Message from Aviva:

We are today launching this year’s Aviva Community Fund and we very much welcome applications from groups in your constituency.

The Aviva Community Fund awards funding of up to £25,000 for local community projects across a range of categories such as skills for life, health & wellbeing and community support.  Last year we had over 450 winners and this year we have even more awards up for grabs.

Applications can be made until 12 noon on 10th October via this link.  There will then be a chance to vote for your favourite projects, with winners announced in January.

Please do let local community groups know and encourage them to apply as this could make a real difference to the lives of your constituents.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing us at avivacommunityfund@charitiestrust.org or calling the helpline on 0151 284 1018.

Is this your postcode ?    Do you know someone living in one of these postcode areas who is elderly, or housebound, or isolated, or vulnerable, and who might benefit from some free, friendly, one-to-one basic tuition in the use of the internet ?   Perhaps by being shown how to contact distant family members by Skype or email ? Or how to surf the internet ?   Or how to find out what's on TV tonight ?   Tap into IT Where You Are, a small Edinburgh-based Social Enterprise, has been given a community grant by Edinbugh City Council's South West Neighbourhood Partnership to offer help ten individuals do this.   Tutors have been specially trained to deliver support of this kind to complete beginners.   The tutor will come to the learner's own home, once a week, for six weeks, for an hour at a time, with equipment (tablets) available to borrow.    If you or someone you know would like to be considered for a place, please email Mike Ellis at mike.ellis@tap-into-it.co.uk   or phone him on 0131 228 5716 or  07505555011.
