CHECKING-IN TO CHECK OUT CAMERON TOLL TRAVELODGE

Today I visited Cameron Toll Travelodge in the constituency to learn more about the work of the hotel and to help promote the city’s tourism industry.
With the hotel at capacity due to the Edinburgh Festival, Manager Carolyn Bisland and District Manager Jon Soesan took time out to show me round the facilities and discuss the contribution the hotel makes to jobs, apprenticeships and the local economy in South Edinburgh.

IM travelodgeI’m really grateful to Carolyn and her team for showing me round the hotel. I’m proud that Edinburgh is one of the most attractive tourist destinations, not just during the festival but all year round and Travelodge play a hugely important part in welcoming people to our city. No wonder the hotel is fully booked for Edinburgh Festival, and has seen very strong trading during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

It’s critical that the hospitality sector provides good, secure jobs which offer employees career progression. Travelodge’s Junior Management Programme is a good example of this and the apprentice I met with was really stimulated by it.

Having run my own small hotel before becoming an MP, I know the hard work and dedication that’s needed and now as an MP, I have seen the contribution the hotel and guest house industry makes to South Edinburgh.”

Carolyn Bisland, Hotel Manager at Edinburgh Cameron Toll Travelodge said:
“I was thrilled to welcome local MP Ian Murray to our newly refurbished hotel. By offering good value rooms in the area, our hotel helps boost the local economy every year by almost £2 million, thanks to the amount that our guests spend in local businesses.

“Mr Murray was very interested in finding out about how we are operating during the Festival season, and it was great to share collective experiences of working in the hotel industry. He enjoyed meeting the team and listening to their stories about how they have found jobs and climbed the career ladder at Travelodge.

“Mr Murray is clearly a massive advocate for the tourism industry and it was great to share experiences and ideas with him, whilst demonstrating the positive impact that we make in the area.”
