Child Poverty

According to analysis by End Child Poverty, 18% of children in Edinburgh South are in poverty.

The figures also show that some of the most deprived areas of the UK have seen the biggest increases in child poverty. Increases of 10% in some areas demonstrate the growing crisis of child poverty in the UK.

The last Labour Government lifted over 500,000 children out of poverty. Sadly this legacy is being undone by successive Conservative Governments.

I made a pledge during the recent General Election to bring forward a Child Poverty Eradication Bill and I’m awaiting permission from the House of Commons authorities to publish and present such a Bill.
