Ian has teamed up with Shadow Scotland Office Minister Tom Greatrex MP to encourage volunteers across Edinburgh and the Lothian’s to sign up as Games Makers for the 2012 Olympics. Up to 70,000 volunteers are needed for the 2012 Games, and people in Scotland can help out either in Glasgow or in London.
There are only a few days left until the 27 October 2010 deadline for volunteering programme, so those interested are urged to apply now to avoid missing out on their last chance to be a Games Maker.
Ian said: “This is a great opportunity for people in Edinburgh and the Lothian’s to participate in the 2012 Olympics. Anybody can play a part in the Games and I would urge those interested to go online and sign up to be a Games Maker. Our national stadium, Hampden, in Glasgow is hosting the Olympics football tournament which is a real privilege. I would encourage as many people as possible across Edinburgh to sign up and contribute to this historic occasion through the array of talents which people in Edinburgh have.”
Tom Greatrex MP, Shadow Scotland Office Minister, said: “The 2012 Olympics organisers are looking to recruit volunteers for the football tournament at Hampden Park. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for residents not just from my own constituency of Rutherglen and Hamilton West but for people all over Scotland, to play their part in the Games and I too am urging everyone to visit the London 2012 website and sign up to be a Games Maker.”
Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games), said: “The London 2012 Games simply could not happen without volunteers from across the UK. Whenever I have spoken to previous volunteers, they’ve all said what a fantastic experience it was. Whatever your role, you will help welcome the world and show what the whole country has to offer. So don’t miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime. You’ve got a few days left to fill-in your application form – don’t miss the deadline of October 27.”
