I joined students from George Heriot’s Politics and Debating Societies to discuss my life as an MP and how I juggle Westminster and constituency demands.
Balancing these demands is one of the most difficult parts of the job, especially for those of us representing constituencies outside London. However, I pride myself on being one of the most accessible local MPs in the country. I hold weekly advice sessions, monthly supermarket advice sessions and I offer a home visit to every constituent in the Edinburgh South.
It seems like our politics are dominated by Brexit and Trump these days. However, the students provided a wide range of questions and we had a healthy discussion across a range of, including the Middle East, Turkey, the economy and Brexit.
